Your skin's own healing response, directed
Microneedling works by creating thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin using fine needles. These micro-injuries trigger the body's wound healing cascade — stimulating collagen and elastin production, increasing circulation, and prompting cellular turnover without causing actual damage.
The result over a series of treatments is progressively better skin quality — improved texture, tighter pores, reduced scarring, more even tone, and firmer overall structure. Because the improvement comes from your own biology rather than from a topical product sitting on the surface, results continue to develop for weeks after each session and compound over a series of treatments.
What makes microneedling particularly versatile is that the micro-channels created during treatment allow add-on serums and biologics to penetrate far deeper than topical application alone. This is why combining PRP, PRF, VAMP, or neurotoxins with microneedling produces significantly better outcomes than either approach on its own.
Safe for All Skin Types
SkinPen microneedling is clinically validated for all Fitzpatrick skin types. Unlike laser treatments that carry higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones, microneedling works through mechanical stimulation rather than heat — making it a versatile option regardless of skin tone.
Series vs Single Sessions
A single treatment produces noticeable improvement, but collagen remodeling is a cumulative process. Most patients benefit from a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 3 to 6 months depending on skin goals and age.
SkinPen and CosmoPen
We use two complementary microneedling devices that allow us to customize your treatment based on the area being treated, your skin concerns, and the add-ons being applied.
SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device on the market and remains the clinical gold standard for collagen induction therapy. It delivers consistent, precise needle depth control across the treatment area, making it ideal for full-face rejuvenation, acne scarring, and any protocol where uniform collagen stimulation is the goal.
Clinical studies on SkinPen have demonstrated statistically significant improvement in acne scar appearance, with results continuing to develop for up to 6 months after a treatment series. It is validated for all Fitzpatrick skin types and is safe for the face, neck, and décolletage.
CosmoPen provides added precision and flexibility for targeted areas, smaller treatment zones, and combination protocols. It is particularly well-suited for areas that require a different approach than the standard SkinPen setting — around the eyes, along the lip border, and for patients who need a more customized depth profile across different zones of the face.
CosmoPen is commonly used in our combination protocols where PRP, PRF, or VAMP are being applied to specific areas that benefit from more targeted penetration. Your provider will determine which device or combination of devices is most appropriate for your treatment plan.
Common skin concerns we address
One of the most well-studied applications for microneedling. By stimulating collagen production in and around scar tissue, repeated treatments gradually remodel the scar and improve surface texture. Results are cumulative and continue developing over months.
Microneedling stimulates new collagen and elastin in the dermis, which gradually plumps and firms the skin from within. Particularly effective for fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and across the forehead when combined with appropriate add-ons.
Pore size is largely determined by the surrounding collagen architecture. As collagen tightens and remodels with repeated treatments, pores visibly reduce in size. A neurotoxin micro-dosing add-on can enhance pore reduction results significantly.
Microneedling accelerates cellular turnover and promotes more even melanin distribution over a series of treatments. Improved texture and tone are among the most commonly reported results even after a single session.
Loss of firmness in the face, neck, and décolletage responds well to consistent microneedling. The collagen remodeling process gradually tightens the skin structure and improves overall firmness, particularly when biostimulator add-ons like PRF are included.
The increased cellular turnover triggered by microneedling helps fade hyperpigmentation and sun damage over time. Best results for pigmentation concerns are achieved when combined with appropriate topical support and sun protection between sessions.
Microneedling add-ons
The micro-channels created during microneedling allow topical biologics and treatments to penetrate far deeper than surface application alone. Add-ons are applied during or immediately after treatment for maximum absorption and enhanced outcomes.
Regenerative
PRP — Platelet-Rich Plasma
Your own platelet-rich plasma is applied topically during microneedling, allowing growth factors to penetrate deeply through the micro-channels. PRP accelerates healing, enhances collagen stimulation, reduces redness and recovery time, and significantly improves overall results. Particularly effective for acne scarring, dull skin, and overall rejuvenation. Blood is drawn in-clinic before your treatment begins.
Second-Generation Regenerative
PRF — Platelet-Rich Fibrin
PRF is processed without anticoagulants, creating a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors more slowly over days to weeks for a sustained regenerative stimulus. When applied during microneedling, PRF provides longer-lasting growth factor delivery than PRP and is the preferred choice for patients focused on skin quality, laxity, and longer-term regenerative outcomes. It can also be used in liquid form for topical application or in gel form for specific areas.
Polynucleotide Therapy
VAMP — PDRN Treatment
VAMP is a branded treatment using PDRN — polynucleotide therapy derived from salmon DNA. When applied during microneedling, PDRN penetrates the micro-channels to support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and stimulate fibroblast activity for accelerated skin regeneration. It is particularly effective for patients focused on scar remodeling, skin quality improvement, and recovery from photo-aging. PDRN has a strong track record in regenerative medicine and is gaining significant traction in aesthetic applications.
Micro-Dosing for Pores
Neurotoxin Add-On
Micro-dosing neurotoxin into the superficial layers of the skin during or alongside microneedling is a technique used specifically to reduce pore size and improve overall skin texture and sebum production. Unlike standard neurotoxin injections which target deeper muscles, this application targets the skin itself. The result is visibly tighter pores, reduced oiliness, and improved skin smoothness — often called the "glass skin" effect. Particularly effective when combined with collagen-stimulating treatments.
What to expect at your appointment
Most microneedling sessions take 45 to 75 minutes depending on the area treated and any add-ons being applied. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to ensure comfort. The sensation during treatment is typically described as a light vibration or mild prickling — not painful.
After treatment you will look like you have a mild sunburn — redness and some swelling that is completely normal and resolves within 24 to 48 hours for most patients. Your skin will look noticeably refreshed even before collagen remodeling begins.
For add-on protocols that include blood draw (PRP or PRF), plan for a slightly longer appointment. Your blood is drawn before treatment, processed by centrifuge while numbing cream is applied, and then ready for application during your session.
Your provider assesses your skin concerns, goals, and treatment history. Add-on options are discussed and a protocol is recommended based on your specific presentation.
If PRP or PRF is part of your protocol, blood is drawn and processed by centrifuge while numbing cream is applied to your skin.
Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 20 to 30 minutes. Your skin is then cleansed before treatment begins.
Treatment is performed with SkinPen and/or CosmoPen. Add-on serums are applied during or immediately after to penetrate through the open micro-channels.
A soothing serum is applied after treatment. You leave with written aftercare instructions. Redness typically resolves within 24 to 48 hours.
Supporting your results after treatment
What you do in the 48 to 72 hours after your session significantly affects how your skin heals and how your results develop. Specific instructions are provided at your appointment.
First 24 to 48 Hours
Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF diligently. Skip makeup for the first 24 hours to let skin breathe and recover. Use only gentle, non-active skincare — no retinoids, acids, or exfoliants. Keep the skin hydrated with a calm, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating, excessive heat including saunas and hot showers, and alcohol.
Ongoing Care
SPF every day, full stop — especially during a treatment series. Resume active skincare products after 72 hours or as directed by your provider. Collagen remodeling continues for weeks to months after treatment so results improve progressively. Schedule your next session 4 to 6 weeks out and plan major events at least 2 weeks after treatment to allow full healing.
Frequently asked about microneedling
What microneedling devices do you use?
We use the SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, and the CosmoPen for customized treatment needs. SkinPen is the clinical gold standard for collagen induction therapy. CosmoPen provides added precision for targeted areas and combination protocols. Your provider will determine which device or combination is most appropriate for your treatment.
What add-ons are available?
We offer PRP, PRF, VAMP (PDRN polynucleotide therapy), and neurotoxin micro-dosing as add-ons to microneedling. Each adds a different layer of benefit. PRP and PRF use your own growth factors for enhanced regeneration. VAMP uses polynucleotide therapy to support tissue repair and fibroblast activity. Neurotoxin micro-dosing specifically targets pore size reduction and skin texture. Add-ons can be combined based on your goals.
What is VAMP and how does it differ from PRP?
VAMP is a branded treatment using PDRN, a polynucleotide derived from salmon DNA. It works by supporting tissue repair at a cellular level, reducing inflammation, and stimulating fibroblast activity for skin regeneration. Unlike PRP and PRF which use your own blood-derived growth factors, PDRN is a separate biological compound with its own distinct mechanism. Both can be used together for complementary regenerative effects.
How many sessions do I need?
Most patients benefit from a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for meaningful improvement in acne scarring, texture, or skin quality. For maintenance and prevention, sessions every 3 to 6 months are typical. Your provider will recommend a protocol based on your specific skin concerns and how your skin responds to the first treatment.
Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. SkinPen microneedling is clinically validated for all Fitzpatrick skin types. Because it works through mechanical stimulation rather than heat or light energy, it does not carry the same risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that laser treatments can in darker skin. This makes it one of the most versatile skin improvement treatments available regardless of skin tone.
